CHELSEA - HarborCOV is pleased to announce a project made possible through a generous grant from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. HarborCOV was one of many non-profit organizations serving the Boston, Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop communities to be awarded these funds through the Suffolk County DA’s Community Reinvestment Grant program.

HarborCOV received the funding from former Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins’ office. The Program offered funding to eligible non-profit organizations as an effort to advance DA Rollins’ goal of building strong, ongoing relationships between the District Attorney’s office and community organizations across Suffolk County.

Due to this generous funding, HarborCOV has been able to purchase necessary technology for domestic violence survivors to use during the ongoing pandemic. This technology has been key to survivors’ ability to continue to meet with their case manager, attend interviews, appointments, and schooling, and receive support.

Domestic violence survivors face significant barriers to living safely, and the pandemic has only exacerbated the challenges that they must face. This technology - accessed due to the Suffolk County DA’s office and the Community Reinvestment Grant program - helps to reduce some of these barriers and mitigate some of the challenges of the pandemic by allowing survivors to continue to work towards their goals virtually.

The DA’s office had this to say about the grant program: “As the chief prosecutor’s office in the county, our office strives to protect the safety and health of our communities and their residents. In pursuit of this goal, we are committed to minimizing practices that perpetuate rather than treat the root causes of criminal behavior. It is therefore a point of immense pride for this Office to support the work of community-based organizations that directly provide services to deal with trauma, violence prevention, substance use disorder, mental health issues, and disparities in education, that advances our goal in minimizing the need for court involvement when possible. Our Community Reinvestment Grant program is one critical component of our support for the neighborhoods that we protect and serve.”

HarborCOV is incredibly grateful to former DA Rollins for the support, and we are excited to partner with current Suffolk County DA Kevin Hayden’s office moving forward.

On behalf of HarborCOV, thank you to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office for your support of domestic violence survivors and for the broader community.
